In the recent year, downtown Houston underwent a major transformation. A new park opened in the heart of the city. Discovery Green was formed partially to draw people into downtown and to provide for much needed relaxation for busy Houstonians. The park host different events throughout the week and has currently turned one of the lakes into a skating rink. Of course, the rink hours are as variable as Houston weather. On hot days, the rink is closed to the public to prevent ice meltage. Although small compared to other cities' parks, Discovery Green provides a much needed facelift to downtown Houston.

Happy New Year! It's been a LONG time since I've updated, but one of my resolutions for this year is to get back to doing things that I used to love and enjoy. This includes this blog and showcasing what Houston is all about. It's been a tough year full of ups and downs for both me and the city I love. Hurricane IKE came through and rattled this city, but its been 4 months since IKE and Houston is back to normal. Here's a night shot of Mecom fountain to start the new year. The roundabout where the fountains are located is the boundary line between the Texas Medical Center and the Museum District.

In the middle of the city lies the Montrose area where you can find the quirkiest of the quirk. This little bookstore specializes in hard to find, one of a kind, independent/underground, artwork and books. I love coming here on a boring afternoon and just browsing the funky titles and cool little toys.

When the weather actually behaves in Houston, my favorite place to go to is Hermann Park. Its a large park in the middle of the city with fountains, a lake, a japanese garden and other sites to see and enjoy. This picture was taken last Sunday during a warm 73 degree weather. If you noticed, this isnt a LOMO type image, because its digital. I've had to resort to digital for now because of lack of time and money to develop film pics. So, for now, it'll be all cameras that I own.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Houston is surrounded by suburbs and little townships. One of them happens to be called Sugar Land because of the sugar plantations that thrived in the area in the early 20th century. Its since grown into one of the fastest growing areas in the US and has undergone major construction. Its actually become a miniature cosmopolitan city of its own.

This small house is deceiving. It is actually a cinema theater where they show indie and cult films from the past and the present. Its part of the buildings around the Menil museum, as evident by its grey color. Not a lot of people know about this small little gem because its not advertised. Its one of those places that you just kind of stumble into like I did.

On a side note, I once again greatly apologize for not updating as often as I should. Its not that I didnt want to, its just that with work and grad school its been hard even remembering to post. However, I do still keep my Lomo in my bag and have never stopped taking pictures. I really want to keep this more updated and its just going to take more effort on my part. I love being part of the daily photo community, so no more excuses, just posts!
